![]() | Experience Each country was experiencing all sorts of different things during this time. In the beginning of the war, the Germans cheered for their soldiers that marched into battle in August of 1914. The Germans didn't care about the Nazis, they mainly feared the disaster of Germany. For they believed, including Hitler, that Germany’s defeat in World War I was caused by Germany’s collapse of their home front. People during this time lived in constant fear. Britain's tried everything they could to avoid Germans bombings, for two days, people everywhere put black cloth in the widows and turned off all and any lights in the whole city, they did this so Germans could not see their target in the dark. this time was called The Blackout. |
Jobs/ Opportunities This war brought citizens the need for women to work and take over jobs for the men that have went off to fight. If a man was well built and was able to fight, they had to go off to war. If a man was too old and weak for fighting, they would be put in working alone with teenagers and women. Many have worked in industries, mines, and railroads. Women during the war helped a lot more than they got credit for. Women (along with old men and teenagers) had to take over jobs and began to work in industries, mines, railroads and dug antitank ditches and were air-raid wardens. This was the time when women really started to work other than take home of their family's needs and the home they lived in.

Popular Objects People often enjoyed listening to music or read book or magazines (such as Time, Life, and The Saturday Evening Post) during this time for when they had free time. They also liked going to see a movie but you would have to go to a theater for that. This was also a time for sports, women began to step in and played baseball. First Aid kits were now provided in everyone's home just in case of any emergencies. |
![]() | Economies of Various Countries At the beginning of the war, Europe became under controlled by Germany and became geared to the war. After the war, most of Europe was roughly damaged. The most important thing damaged was the railroad networks. This made it difficult to move even essential goods around in many areas. |
